Ambic’s Silver Lining for Local Economy

ambic470 Ambic’s Silver Lining for Local EconomyA Chester-le-Street company has unveiled expansion plans that will almost double its furniture manufacturing operations.

The announcement comes from Ambic, a regional leader in the design and manufacture of furnishings for the education sector, which celebrated 25 successful years in business this month.

Work is now underway on a new 24,000 sq ft factory, at the town’s Stella Gill Industrial Estate, that will bring Ambic’s manufacturing and administration activities under one roof.

The £1.8m development, scheduled for completion in early 2009, will pave the way for the company to broaden its regional business horizons and lift staffing levels from 30 to 40.

The new base will streamline manufacturing and production lines that are currently dispersed through nine units at Stella Gill.

Managing director David Potter, said: “We have an ambitious vision for the way we want to take the business in the future and our new factory will give us greater efficiency in all departments.

“Since I launched the company at the Enterprise Workshop in Byker, Ambic has established itself as a regional leader in its field with a highly skilled workforce and a reputation for the design and quality of our products which are engineered to exceptionally high standards.

“Our main customers are schools and further education centres where our ranges are made for classrooms, science laboratories and student accommodation. We also design and supply the NHS, police forces and blue chip businesses such as Nissan, Samsung and British Gas.

“This expansion will give us the foundations to improve market penetration and export the Ambic brand nationally. It secures all round improvements for our woodworking, metal, sheet metal, painting and precision engineering operations,” said David.
